Our Implanon service provides expert insertion, replacement, and removal of this highly effective, long-acting contraceptive. Suitable for women who want reliable contraception without the need for a daily pill, Implanon is also an excellent option for those who cannot use oestrogen-containing contraceptives or are breastfeeding. Your GP will discuss your medical history, contraceptive goals, and individual needs to determine whether Implanon is the right choice for you.
The Mirena intrauterine device works by releasing a small amount of levonorgestrel locally within the uterus — preventing pregnancy and, for many women, dramatically reducing or eliminating periods. It is one of the most cost-effective and reliable forms of contraception available, and its non-contraceptive benefits — including treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis pain — make it a first-line option for many women. Mirena insertions and removals are performed by trained GPs in our procedure room. We provide thorough counselling before the procedure and take every step to ensure your comfort.

Aftercare
A pressure dressing is applied — no stitches required. Your GP advises on what to expect over the following days and when the implant takes effect for contraception.
Insertion or Removal
A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area. The rod is inserted (or removed) through a small incision using a specialised applicator. The procedure takes 2–5 minutes.
